Clone REAL1033 recognizes Chromogranin A, also known as parathyroid secretory protein 1, CHGA or CgA. Chromogranin A is a member of the chromogranin/secretogranin family of neuroendocrine secretory proteins. It functions as a precursor of different peptides such as vasostatin 1 and 2, catestatin, pancreastatin or parastatin and modulates the formation of secretory vesicles. It is detected in secretory vesicles of neurons and in several endocrine tissues including the adrenal medulla, pituitary, paraganglia, beta cells of pancreas, thyroid, and parathyroid. It is used as a marker for carcinoid tumors, insulinoma, pheochromocytomas, medullary thyroid carcinoma, paragangliomas, neuroblastoma and other neuro-endocrine tumors. Increasing Chromogranin A levels can also lead to non-malignant diseases such as gastrointestinal, cardiovascular and inflammatory diseases.
