Clone REAL1034 is an antibody fragment derived from the full AIFM1 antibody molecule. It displays no binding to Fc receptors. The recombinantly engineered antibody fragments are multimerized to form the REAdye_lease Complex to bind markers with high avidity.

Clone REAL1034 recognizes AIFM1 (Apoptosis-inducing factor 1, mitochondria), also known as AIF, a flavoprotein essential for nuclear disassembly in apoptotic cells that is found in the mitochondrial intermembrane space in healthy cells. AIFM1 functions both as NADH oxidoreductase and as regulator of apoptosis. In addition AIFM1 induces mitochondria to release the apoptogenic proteins cytochrome c and caspase-9. It also contributes reductase activity in redox metabolism. Mutations in the AIFM1 gene are correlated with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (Cowchock syndrome) and results in deficiencies in oxidative phosphorylation, leading to severe mitochondrial encephalomyopathy.
