Clone REA1238 reacts with the CD48 mouse antigen, which is a 45 kDa GPI-linked glycoprotein also known as BCM1, blast-1 (human), or OX-45 (rat). CD48 belongs to the SLAM family including CD48, CD244, and CD150. These cell surface receptors were differentially expressed among functionally progenitors. Hematopoietic stem cells are highly purified as CD150^–CD48^–CD244^– cells, multipotent hematopoietic progenitors are CD244⁺CD150^–CD48^– and most restricted progenitor cells are CD48⁺CD244⁺CD150^–. In mouse, the ligands for CD48 are CD2 and CD244.
