Clone H194-112 recognizes the mouse CD26 antigen, a 220 kDa single-pass type II membrane protein also known as dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (Dpp4) or thymocyte-activating molecule (THAM). CD26 is a multifunctional glycoprotein expressed both as a soluble form in plasma and on the surface of several cell types, including epithelial and endothelial cells. In the immune system CD26 is expressed on thymocytes, activated T cells, B cells, NK cells, and macrophages. It has been involved in T cell costimulation, tumor suppression, and adenosine deaminase binding. In addition, CD26 is a serine protease belonging to a subgroup of prolyl oligopeptidases, whose members specifically cleave off N-terminal dipeptides from proteins having proline or alanine in amino acid position 2. The biological activity of several hormones and chemokines can be abolished by CD26 in vitro. Thus, CD26 has been implicated in the regulation of immune, inflammatory, nervous, and endocrine functions.
