Stimulate T cells reactive to the ACR (alpha-crystallin) antigen of Mycobacterium tuberculosis using PepTivator® Peptide Pools. PepTivators are pools of lyophilized peptides, consisting mainly of 15-mer sequences with 11 amino acids overlap. PepTivator M. tuberculosis ACR is a peptide pool covering the complete sequence of the ACR protein (UniProtKB Acc. no. P9WMK1).
In vitro stimulation of antigen-specific T cells with PepTivator Peptide Pools causes the secretion of effector cytokines and the up-regulation of activation markers, which then allow the detection and isolation of antigen-specific T cells.
Tuberculosis (TB) caused by infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. According to the WHO a quarter of the world’s population is infected with M. tuberculosis. While most infections are latent and asymptomatic, about 5–10% of infections progress to active disease. TB persists as a serious global health threat, requiring new vaccines and therapeutics to combat multidrug resistance. ACR (alpha-crystallin) is a membrane-associated antigen of M. tuberculosis. As an ATP-independent chaperone that belongs to a family of small heat shock proteins, ACR is induced in hypoxic conditions and was shown to be highly expressed in stationary cultures. ACR has a proposed role in bacterial survival during latent infection.
