The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) is a single-pass type I membrane protein which is also known as receptor tyrosine-protein kinase ErbB-1 or HER1. EGFR is ubiquitously expressed in normal cells and overexpressed in many tumor cell lines. It is a critical regulator of many normal cellular processes, including cell growth, differentiation, survival, and migration. The EGFR is also implicated in pathological processes of cellular transformation and oncogenesis due to its overexpression in many types of cancers and its ability to induce morphological transformation of cultured cells and tumor formation in nude mice. Some targeted therapies are deveploped to inhibit the tumor growth by inhibiting the EPCR oncogenic signaling. Clone REA1367 recognizes specifically the human EGF Receptor vIII (EGFRvIII), a mutated form of EGFR, that is exclusively expressed on gliomas, but not normal tissues.
Additional information: Clone REA1367 displays negligible binding to Fc receptors.
