Clone REA485 recognizes the human, mouse, and rat C-C motif chemokine 2 (CCL2) antigen, which is also known as monocyte chemotactic protein 1 (MCP-1) or platelet-derived growth factor-inducible protein JE. CCL2 is a member of the C-C chemokine family, and a potent chemotactic factor for monocytes. Human CCL2 is composed of 76 amino acids and is 13 kDa in size. CCL2 is produced either constitutively or after induction by oxidative stress, cytokines, or growth factors. It is produced by many cell types, including endothelial, fibroblasts, epithelial, smooth muscle, mesangial, astrocytic, monocytic, and microglial cells. These cells are important for antiviral immune responses in the peripheral circulation and in tissues. However, monocyte/macrophages are found to be the major source of CCL2. It regulates the migration and infiltration of monocytes, memory T lymphocytes, and natural killer (NK) cells. CCL2 has been implicated in the pathogenesis of diseases characterized by monocytic infiltrates, like psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, or atherosclerosis.
Additional information: Clone REA485 displays negligible binding to Fc receptors.
